Despite the modern establishment in 1945, Hoffenheim's roots hint at a much older history. Following World War II, the current form of Hoffenheim was shaped by merging the football team Fußballverein Hoffenheim with the gymnastics club, Turnverein Hoffenheim. In the early '90s, they were an amateur side competing in the 8th division of the Baden-Wurttemberg A-Liga. However, their rapid ascent saw them rise through promotions, reaching the Verbandsliga Nordbaden by '96.

Many attribute the team's transformation to Dietmar Hopp, a software entrepreneur and former player, whose financial support proved pivotal. Despite their eventual debut in the Bundesliga in the 08-09 season, their journey to the top flight was swift. In the 16-17 season, they secured their best finish, claiming 4th place. Notably, Hoffenheim clinched the North Baden Cup in '02, '03, '04, and '05, adding to their accomplishments.
