Premier League 2024 - 2025: Early Contenders, Struggling Giants, and the Fight for Survival

As October comes to a close, the season's early surprises and disappointments are giving way a clearer picture of which teams pose a threat to the title charge, as well as which teams are at risk of relegation.  From unexpected frontrunners to struggling giants, let's take a closer look at how the 2024/25 Premier League season is shaping up so far. The battle for the Premier League title is setting out to be a closely contested one this season, with Liverpool leading the charge. They are currently top of the table with 25 points after beating Brighton 2-1 this on the 2nd November. Following such successful results, their fans will be impressed with the impact Arne Slot has had in filling the gap left behind Klopp’s departure. Just behind them is Manchester City, Who failed to maintain their 2 point lead over Liverpool after losing their first game of the season against Bournemouth. Despite this, with 4 consecutive Premier League titles under their belt, Manchester City are still seen as likely contenders to win once more, motivated by their recent victories. Will Manchester City win their 5th consecutive title, or will another team break their streak? Other mentions include Nottingham Forest, who are not too far behind, on 19 points. This is Impressive for a club like Forrest who finished 17th place last season and are now ahead of top clubs like Arsenal and Chelsea.

Whilst there are many success stories to be had in the Premier League, there are also some teams who are struggling to adjust to the competitive dynamic of the current season. Manchester United have had a significantly poor spell of bad form in recent months, unable to replicate the performances which helped secure them their FA Cup trophy last season. They currently sit in the bottom half of the league in 13th place on 12 points, having lost more games than they have won. Further leaving fans concerned is the sacking of Erik ten Hag. Whilst there are talks of a new manager to be arriving very soon, it will be interesting to see if this will be enough to throw the Red Devils back into the competition to secure a spot in Europe next season. Ipswich Town, Wolverhampton, and Southampton are teams all at threat of relegation. After their 9 games, Wolverhampton and Ipswich Town, are yet to win a single game. Disappointing players and fans alike. Whilst we are only a quarter way through the season, if they don't start winning games soon, they will struggle. Will Ipswich town and Southampton turn their fortunes around and make their return to the Premier League a successful one, or will they get relegated to the Championship once more? And will Wolves be able to avoid relegation since their promotion to the top flight back in 2018? Only time will tell.

As the Premier League season progresses, the battle for the title, European qualification, and survival promises to deliver more drama and excitement, keeping fans on the edge of their seats until the final whistle blows.
