Stade de la Beaujoire, Nantes, France
Nantes, a Ligue 1 French football team, calls the Stade de la Beaujoire home. The stadium, inaugurated in 1984 with a match between Romania and Nantes drawing 30,000 spectators, features the name "Louis Fonteneau" in honour of the former team president from 1969 to 1986. In 1998, renovations were undertaken for the World Cup, temporarily increasing its capacity to 52,923 before becoming an all-seater venue later that year.
In addition to hosting Nantes games, Stade de la Beaujoire has been the backdrop for significant international matches, including Euro 1984 contests and memorable moments like France's 5-0 victory over Belgium, where Michel Platini scored a hat-trick. The stadium played a key role in the 1998 World Cup, hosting six matches, including the quarter-final clash between Denmark and Brazil. Originally planned to be replaced by the YelloPark for the 2024 Summer Olympics in Paris and the 2023 Rugby World Cup, the project was cancelled on February 26, 2019.
